THE SISTERS BACKSTAGE is a collection of letters between two Sisters of Loretto from Webster College and hotel magnate Conrad N. Hilton. Covering a period from 1958 through 1963, they are some of the most beautiful and compelling communiqués one can find. They tell a story of faith, hope, perseverance and philanthropy as they lead up to the commitment from Mr. Hilton to fund the building of one of Saint Louis’ most important cultural venues - The Loretto-Hilton Center for the Performing Arts.

  • Pictures of our grandfather’s visit to Webster in the 1960’s for the groundbreaking still hang in the offices of the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, for visitors and staff alike to see all these years later. Now, because of your book, this story will extend far betond our walls. thank you, Dr. Larson, for bringing this remarkable story to light.                   Steven M. Hilton & Conrad N. Hilton III

  • Congratulations on this marvelous accomplishment. Your project, which was a departure from your conducting,  is a terrific example of this quote from Conrad Hilton’s  autobiography, “Enthusiasm is an inexhaustible force…Use it and you will find yourself constantly moving forward to new forms of expression.”

Marge Brownstein, Historian Conrad N. Hilton Foundation
